Milk tart is thought to have originated in the 1600s, created by the Dutch settlers. Cape Town was a way-station between the Netherlands and Indonesia, and ships stopping to take on fresh provisions would have plenty of cinnamon and other spices on board from South East Asia. Using these and the dairy products from the local Cape Colony farms, local bakers came up with this amazing tart.
