Salted caramel hot chocolate

Winter is made for foodie indulgences like this one. And we seriously can’t get enough of our salted caramel hot chocolate. Not to mention that it’s super easy to make.


For the basic salted caramel
2 cups sugar
½ cup water
1 cup cream
50g butter
3 tsp sea salt flakes
For the hot chocolate
2 cups milk
80g dark chocolate, finely chopped
100 ml basic salted caramel, warm

For the basic salted caramel
1. Place the sugar and water in a pot over low heat. Let the sugar dissolve, scraping down any sugar crystals that form on the side of the pot.
2. Bring to the boil and cook for 10–15 minutes, until the syrup turns a deep amber colour. Take it off the heat and add the cream. Leave to bubble.
3. Whisk in the butter and salt.
For the hot chocolate
1. Steam the milk until hot and frothy, or heat in the microwave for 1 minute.
2. Add the chocolate and stir until melted.
3. Pour into 2 glasses. Drizzle 50 ml basic salted caramel into each glass. Serve warm.
