Pork chops with bacon jam and Cheddar

Love to try new flavours with your braai meat? These bacon jam and Cheddar pork chops are sweet, sticky and delicious!


For the bacon jam
200 g bacon, diced
½ onion, finely chopped
¼ cup brown sugar
1/3 cup strong coffee
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp ground cumin
For the chops
4 pork chops
Olive oil, to rub
200 g Cheddar, grated

For the bacon jam
1. Fry bacon until brown. Add onion and fry until soft.
2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for 15–20 minutes, until sticky. Add ⅓ cup water if it reduces too quickly.
For the chops
1. Rub chops with olive oil, salt and pepper.
2. Braai for 3–4 minutes on each side, until cooked through.
3. Serve the chops with bacon jam. Sprinkle with Cheddar while hot, so that it melts.
