Fresh radish coleslaw

Spice up your braai side game with this fresh radish coleslaw. It’s an amazing crowd-pleaser and you can have it on the table in under 20 minutes.


For the dressing
⅓ cup soy sauce
⅓ cup water
3 tbsp mirin (or sherry)
Juice of 3 limes
3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
1 knob ginger, peeled and grated
1½ tbsp fish sauce
1 tbsp salt
1½ tsp pepper
For the coleslaw
300 g radishes, coarsely grated
150 g cabbage, sliced
5 carrots, peeled and julienned
2–3 red chillies, chopped
1 bulb fennel, thinly sliced
1½ tbsp white sesame seeds, toasted
1½ tsp black sesame seeds

For the dressing
1. Place all the ingredients in a pot and simmer for 2 minutes. Set aside to cool.
For the coleslaw
1. Toss everything together. Add the dressing and toss to coat.
