5 ways to stay healthy on the weekend

Let’s face it, during the week it’s much easier to get your life on track – you workout regularly, you’ve been making healthy food choices, and you haven’t been skipping meals or indulging. Suddenly it’s Friday night and you’re in front of the TV, surrounded by snacks and junk food. The next two days you may over-indulge and make unhealthy choices that leave you feeling awful. Ring a bell? Here are some easy ways  you can stay healthy on the weekend

1. MAKE HEALTHY CHOICES

It’s perfectly fine to have a ‘cheat’ meal or eat out, but give yourself time to think a bit instead of just ordering. Are you craving a carb-loaded treat but know it makes you feel bloated? Try to choose options which won’t hurt your body, such as a meaty dish or something with healthy carbs.

2. GET ACTIVE

Whether it’s a social hike, a brisk walk or a yoga session on Sunday morning, try to squeeze in some exercise to get your body moving instead of spending all day inside. Of course, rest is important, but listen to what your body needs.

3. EAT REGULARLY

No matter when you wake up, don’t skimp on breakfast or any other meals. Make sure what you are eating is balanced and will fuel you for the day, rather than simply satisfying some cravings.

4. PLAN THE WEEK AHEAD

Spend some time thinking about what you’ll be eating over the next week and try to sort out any other organising before Monday arrives. And if you love to cook, Saturday nights and peaceful Sunday afternoons are the perfect times to meal prep for the week ahead, and to keep you inspired.

5. RESET

If you haven’t been having the best week in terms of healthy living, use your weekend to get back into the groove of things. Cook yourself some healthy home-made meals, go to the gym, and try to productively contribute to the week ahead.

If all else fails, just remember to listen to your body and what it needs!
