Since its arrival on the foodie scene, coconut water has been hailed as nature’s own miracle drink. Its wild popularity has led many to question its supposed nutritional value, dismissing the flavoursome water as just another passing health trend. But don’t be fooled. Coconut water is wonderfully hydrating too. The clear liquid found inside young, green coconuts (not to be confused with coconut milk) contains five essential electrolytes: calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, sodium and potassium. You’ve probably heard the claims that this sweet water has anti-ageing, anti-carcinogenic and anti-thrombotic effects, but this hasn’t been proven yet.
We put a great spin on both the humble potato bake and the chicken dinner by combining the two, as well as adding healthier ingredients and Asian flavours. This sweet potato bake is a perfect mid-week one-pan family meal with hardly any hands-on time and a great way to include protein, carbs and nutrients, making for a balanced plate.
If you are as obsessed with pesto as we are (because who isn’t, right?), then you will be as delighted as we were to find out that foodie royale, Pesto Princess has released a downloadable recipe eBook that can be conveniently stored on your computer, tablet or phone for on the go meal inspiration.
Making pasta at home is one thing every foodie should be able to do, and it’s easier than you could ever imagine. And you don’t even need a pasta machine, just a deft hand with a rolling pin and a sharp knife. We start you off easy with home-made tagliatelle and a deliciously creamy meat-free sauce.
It’s a comfort food mashup! We love pizza (obviously) and we can also make frittata, without encouragement, out of anything we can get our hands on. So here is it, the pizza frittata. And, as a bonus, it’s low-carb and we added red wine.
Caralishious says: ‘One thing that I often miss on this healthy journey of mine is none other than the good old waffle. There is just something about a hearty crisp waffle that really gets my taste-buds worked up…even the thought of a waffle can trigger cravings second to none. And so off to the kitchen I went to work on a healthy waffle recipe (obviously…wink wink). What makes my heart sing even more is that this particular recipe is low carb too. Such a win! In this recipe I do use caramelized bananas as a topping which may increase the carb content, so for those of you who are watching your carbs, you can leave out the banana and just use the nut butter and strawberries as your main toppings. I hope you love this one as much as I do.’
There really is nothing better than a lazy weekend filled with good old fashioned baking. And with that in mind, we bring you a good old fashioned bake. Pumpkin bread is lovely with the slightest sweet taste that pairs perfectly with melting honey. Finish off with a drizzling of honey and you’ll be in heaven.

Being a WWF-SASSI ambassador and forager, I love the ocean and cooking with the fresh ingredients found on my doorstep in Grotto Bay. This is one of the signature dishes that started my career with the Ultimate Braai Master back in 2014. I have a few mussel recipes, but nothing beats this or tastes as true to the ocean as this one. It’s the greatest WWF-SASSI recipe ever!
