La Tête on Bree

Commonly known for its meaty French cuisine, La Tête has officially earned the title of one of Cape Town’s top new restaurants opening in 2017 by CNN. Located on Bree street, La Tête has received incredible reviews – and who better to thank than chef Giles Edwards.

Chef Giles worked under Fergus Henderson at the iconic St. John Restaurant in London, where he encountered a food philosophy that centred on simple ingredient based concepts. From there on, Giles was inspired to continue this philosophy at a restaurant of his own. After returning to Cape Town, Edwards opened a pop-up called Salt Cellar in Woodstock and used this period to find an ideal space for La Tête.

The menu created places a big emphasis on meat, using the whole carcass and not letting any part go to waste. Dishes include mussels with bacon and cider, roast shallots, mint and pork terrine, hake, chard and anchovy, beef and kidney pudding and ox heart with chips and horseradish. And let’s not leave out dessert. You can expect classic offerings of salted chocolate caramel tart (yum), poached nectarines, and chocolate pots.

Giles visualises his restaurant as a simple space where the focus is solely on the food, the wine and the company. If you’ve yet to indulge at this magnificent French bistro, we recommend you get moving!
