Set back on the manicured lawns of the Steenberg Estate, tucked beneath the towering oak trees, is Catharina’s Restaurant, a hidden gem of a lunch spot. You might be in the middle of residential Cape Town, but you feel a million miles away.
Catharina’s Executive Chef, Archie Maclean, has created a special two- or three-course lunch menu that fits the bill perfectly for easy, relaxed lunches in Steenberg’s idyllic Cape Dutch surroundings.
For starters, there is a choice between mushroom and Pecorino risotto, or a confit chicken Caesar salad.
A hearty seafood linguini or juicy sirloin steak are up next for mains.
Dessert lovers can hark back to the intrepid days of Catharina’s Ras, Steenberg’s 17th-century founder, while tucking into rooibos crème brûlée and frozen melktert, or opt for lighter refreshment with a selection of three seasonal sorbets.
A lazy lunch would not be complete without a little something to sip – and being on a wine farm, there’s no shortage of delicious tipple.
