Mixing bowl 

No kitchen is complete without a proper mixing bowl. Size matters when selecting a mixing bowl – the right size will provide you with ample space for mixing your ingredients. Also consider functionality when choosing your bowl. Stainless steel bowls are durable, glass bowls are safe for microwave and oven use and plastic bowls are lightweight and practical for everyday use. What about those beautiful ceramic ones? They not only look beautiful, but also retain heat, making them perfect for yeast doughs. 

Measuring jugs, cups and spoons 

Measuring spoons and cups are vital for bakers, from beginners to masters. The key to perfect texture and flavour in your yummy bakes is to use precise recipe measurements. A set of measuring cups are best for dry ingredients like flour and sugar. Add a set of spoons for smaller amounts, like for salt and baking powder. A good tip is to run the back of a flat-bladed knife across the surface of your cups and spoons after scooping dry ingredients. Measuring jugs measure wet ingredients. Place your jug on a flat surface and check at eye-level for an accurate measurement.

Whisk 

Not all mixing tools were not created equally – with the whisk being the ‘elite employee’ when it comes to your mixing utensils. The thin metal wires which form a rounded bulb shape are used to blend ingredients, all while adding air into what you are mixing.
